Motor Insurance
Motor insurance comes with a plethora of options, often leading to confusion when selecting the most suitable policy. At IIB (Thailand), we are dedicated to clarifying the different types of motor insurance available and discussing their advantages and disadvantages.
Here is a concise overview of the various types of motor insurance:
Compulsory Motor Insurance, also known as “Por Ror Bor,” is legally required for all motor vehicles in Thailand. This insurance covers only bodily injuries or death to third parties involved in an accident. However, it's important to note that the coverage limit is relatively modest.
Due to the financial constraints of Compulsory Motor Insurance, insurers provide a spectrum of more comprehensive insurance policies, summarized in the table below:
Type 1: Often referred to as 1st Class Insurance, this is the most comprehensive policy available.
Type 2+: Similar to Type 1 but does not fully cover damage to the owner’s vehicle.
Type 2: Like Type 2+ but covers damage to the owner’s vehicle only in collisions involving third-party vehicles.
Type 3+: A downgrade from Type 2+ excluding coverage for fire, theft, and natural perils.
Type 3: Offers the most basic coverage excluding own vehicle damage unless it collides with a third-party vehicle.
At IIB we aim to guide you through these options to ensure you choose the insurance coverage that best meets your needs, safeguarding you against the financial implications of road accidents.
